What I see in the manger
During this time of year, one can not help but see a nativity scene. Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, some animals, shepherds and angles. To some it means absolutely nothing, and to others, this nativity set is the entire purpose of the time of year we call Christmas. To follow here, is what I see when I look at a manger scene.
Oddly enough, I see one of many, many prophecies given centuries before the event, that give explicit details about the event long before it ever happened.
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us
a son is given: and the
government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called
Wonderful,
Counseller,
The mighty God,
The everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace.
1. This Child was coming to be a King of his own people, but his own people rejected him as King. It was actually the accusation made against him that got Him crucified.
- Matthew 27:37
And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE
KING OF THE JEWS.
While there will come a time that His people (Isreal) will accept him, God opens the door to us to accept Him.
- John 1:11 He
came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as
received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to
them that believe on his name:
2. This baby to be born was attributed the name...Wonderful, and He certainly is in every way.
- 1 Pet 2.7
says “Unto you therefore which believe he
is precious:”
3. That baby in the manger, though born to a carpenter, would be ...Counseller. and justly so.
- Colossians 2:3 In
whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
How to approach HIM
as counselor
1. We come
as a child
2. Having
the “favor of God” as our desire
3.
Renouncing “our interests” and seeking “His Interests”
The chief counsel of Christ was that,
with our sins, our sorrows,
our struggles, our aspirations,
we should come into intimate union with
himself,
the Savior, the Friend, the Master, the Leader, of mankind.
In
clearest, strongest, tenderest tones he says ever to us all,
"Come unto
me;
abide in me;
follow me;
and ye shall not walk in darkness,
but have the
light of Life.".
4. That little child was foretold to be, was, and is....The Mighty God.
- John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in
the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was
not any thing made that was made.John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his
glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and
truth.
No other religion in the world, has a God that actually "put on" flesh and walked amongst us, and experienced life just as we do. Yet, He would do it with out sin and then allow sinful men to crucify the sinless one as a substitute for us.
5. The promise and prophecy was that this little newborn baby would be ....The Everlasting Father.
- John 14:9
Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not
known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how
sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
- 1 Timothy 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was
manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached
unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
6. Lastly, the prophet of old, foretold that this Baby would be ....The Prince of Peace.
- John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give
I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Some PRESERVE peace, Some COMMAND peace …this child would
CREATE it
- Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your
hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
All this, from "a child is born".
As far as every aspect of his name, and that which he did, and sacrificed for us to have a relationship with him
Its
promised in a book that has never been proven wrong
Its Offered to each individual that will accept Hi by Faith
Its up to
Us to make the decision to trust and accept what He offers
Its true,
regardless of what you think about it.
