Full Time For A Week

Most people know that my holster business is not a full-time business. I have a day job like everybody else, except I come out early in the morning and late in the evening and work on holsters instead of watching TV. My day job gets slow during the winter time and the week between Christmas and New Year's is always slow. This year, because of the weather, I was off all week..

So I got to experience a week of full time holster making. Luckily, I received several orders to give me plenty of work to do. During this week I worked as many hours as I would usually work in a three weeks. There was a time, that more than three hours of holster building would leave me a little punchy. But I would have to say that I have enjoyed this week immensely. From the business end of things, I know that it will be sometime before I can even think about doing this full time.  But at least now I know that I could like doing it all day, every day..

Merry Christmas

There is so much that goes on this time of year in attempt to celebrate Christmas. Let us never forget the reason.

Luke
Chapter 2

1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered themin her heart.
20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

A little story behind this one. Made a sheath a while back for a guy, and found out that it had some problems. The knife would fall out because of a silly mistake that I made with the retention strap. In all honesty, the customer probably never would have told me about it, except that I asked how it was doing. My automatic response was, let me re make that for you. I have never been under the allusion that I could make every thing perfect. In light of what I aspire to accomplish, I am still in the first steps of learning. If you ever have any problem with something build just let me know.

The Gun Show

Well the past two weekend I have gone to Gun shows.  Last weekend at Wichita Falls TX and this week in Amarillo.  Just wanted to find out if I think it is a good thing for my little hobby business. One thing for sure, Amarillo should count its blessings, because its gun show is far better. It obvious the reasons why. The emphasis is guns, the other one was less than fifty percent gun stuff.

I find it very interesting to talk to people about guns and holsters all day and amazing how many people I share tips with as they tell me they are new to concealed carry.  I am fully aware of how I do business differently than others. I have holsters to sell at the gun show, and readily talk people into ordering the exact thing they want instead of purchasing the one in there hand. I just think it is better that away and a pleased person will be better business in the long run.

I do think I will make it a regular ritual to set up for the gun shows, but will evaluate it to see if the benefits justify the time and expense.

Bam Bam Making a Gun Belt part 4 of 4

Last of the video on making a gun belt.  If you made it through them all, you have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Bam Bam Holsters Bench

Lots of Thanksgiving family gatherings this week resulted in half as much time in the shop, so half as much done. Not over loaded with orders anyways and family time is precious time.
